Come on Baby Light my Fire...

Many people aren't sure how to address their fireplace. There are many different ways to do so, you may want to make it less a focal point while others may create more decor to bring attention to the fireplace. Here are some images to inspire you.

Robert Granoff Photography

I am always on the hunt for a really amazing interior photographer as I love perusing their work. Randomly I was searching through different "interior design" apps in the ITunes Store when I came across an App by a photographer named Robert Granoff. I immediately recognized the name as he is the brother/ brother in law of good friends of mine.

Upon looking through his work I was speechless! I couldn't believe I actually knew this phenomenal photographer and of course I contacted him immediately to share my adoration of his work.

Therefore, this post is dedicated to Robert. Below are some images from his site, but trust me you should be sure to view all of the images he has on his website/ app.

To locate his App, simply go to http://www.robertgranoff.com/app or type "Robert Granoff" in the search field of any apple device. His App is compatible with both the IPhone and IPad.

If you know anyone looking for a photographer, you should certainly have them contact him. His reputation is impeccable and he is the sweetest guy you will ever meet! He also loves to compensate anyone that refers him business (he views everyone as his agents), so if you make the connection he will hook you up with a three digit gift cards or even cash! Sounds good to me!

A little background on Robert...

DO Judge a book by it's cover...

My dream home is an uber-modern architectural masterpiece overlooking the water. It doesn't even matter where it is - just want it to have tons of floor to ceiling windows and extreme privacy.

If anyone has 30 mil lying around, I highly suggest buying this property located right here in Montauk. If you do, PLEASE invite me over! Lol!

Maybe in my next life. But for now I can salivate over these beautys and continue to fantasize...

Check out this Ideabook on Houzz

Erika Ward, an interior designer and contributor on Houzz.com, put together an Ideabook about Sophisticated Kid's Spaces. I was so proud to learn that four out of the eight images she posted are my design! So exciting! Check it out.

Look Up...

When designing a room, people often fail to address the ceiling. As long as there is enough light, the ceiling is rarely a cause for concern. However, the ceiling can be an amazing focal point and really help to tie a room together. I actually just painted the ceiling of my office hot pink and it really helps to brighten the room.

Take a look at some of these images and let me know what you think.

I love the blue paint juxtaposed with the black and white tiled floor. It is so unexpected and original.

The wooden planks extending from the wall to the ceiling really help to elongate the room and add a sense of warmth in a more contemporary setting.

While the room is decorated very simply, the painted ceiling helps to give the space a splash of color and excitement.

It is hard to see in this photo but if you look closely you will notice that the wallpaper covers the ceiling and then comes down slightly on the walls just above the crown molding.

I may have posted this image previously as it is one of my all time favorite rooms. Love the yellow and white stripes against the black wall.

Coolest Way to Display Books!

I don't know why I have this obsession lately with bookshelves but when I saw this one, I had to share it with you. I am kind of regretting the fact that I donated most of my books recently to charity. Just kidding - well kind of. This unit would have looked super cool in my house!

Find it here at Suite NY.

Double Up!

As many of you know, when I first came into the interior design business I was focusing solely on children's spaces. I have amassed a huge inventory of photos of children's spaces and thought I would slowly share my faves with you every now and then.

I am often asked how parents can bunk more than one child in the room without making the space feel crowded and stuffy. Maybe some of these images can spark your creativity...

Let's Hang Out

The concept of entertaining is a great concern when designing a home, especially for people with big families and/or a lot of friends. Designers are constantly challenged by balancing aesthetics with the desire to "fit" as many people as possible comfortably.

I recently came across the same predicament when designing a basement/ playroom. I needed to address the fact that this was a space that would be occupied by both children and adults. So while it was necessary to be playful, I didn't want it to seem too kitschy.

The result is the room below. As you can see there are two televisions, one larger one for movies and a smaller one for "gaming." Behind the sofa are a few beanbags like the yellow one you see in the photo. Beanbags are an easy solution allowing a bunch of kids to join in the video games.
