One of my most beloved floor lamps is the Arco Lamp produced by Flos. This timeless fixture was designed by Achille Castiglioni and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1962 and is the epitome of functional elegance.

The base is made out of Italian Carrara marble and weighs well over 100 pounds (assuming it is the real deal - many replicas are produced.) The dome shade is made using polished aluminum and the stem is a satin-finish stainless steel.

The fixture can be specified in any kind of room. While it is mostly seen in living rooms, I have seen it in bedrooms, offices and dining rooms. You can even use it in a nursery as seen in one of the images below.
